Por vs Para – English-Spanish Phrases Quiz
Por y para – Frases en inglés y español
Both por and para can translate “for”, which is why learners mix them up. The easiest way in is through fixed phrases (por favor, por fin, para siempre, para llevar) and then short sentences that contrast the two. Practice 46 items in both directions (English ⇄ Spanish).
The core idea
Para looks forward: purpose, destination, deadline, recipient — para aprender (in order to learn), salgo para México (I’m leaving for Mexico), para el lunes (by Monday), es para ti (it’s for you).
Por looks at cause, exchange, movement through, duration and means — por la lluvia (because of the rain), por cien pesos (for 100 pesos), por el parque (through the park), por la mañana (in the morning), por teléfono (by phone).
